Nick Jakho is a contemporary artist based in Hamburg, Germany. His practice moves between painting, relief and sculptural object, exploring the relationship between material, light and perception.
Working with aluminium, canvas, chiffon and acrylic, Jakho develops surfaces that respond to their surroundings. Reflection, depth, layered colour and subtle irregularities allow the works to shift with changing light, distance and point of view.
Rather than treating an artwork as a fixed image, Jakho is interested in how it exists within space and changes through perception. Reflective metal, layered near-black surfaces and precisely constructed forms reveal different qualities depending on the surrounding light and the viewer’s position.
His work combines reduction and control with an openness to material behaviour and chance. What appears minimal at first often reveals traces, transitions and variations over time, inviting a slower, more attentive way of looking.
